About Eradle

Eradle is a free game about how the world map has changed. Countries split, merged, changed their names and redrew their flags far more often than most people realise: the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Zaire, Czechoslovakia and many more existed within living memory. Eradle turns that history into short puzzles you can play in a few minutes.

The games

  • Daily puzzle: one historical world map a day. Find the year it shows in six guesses, then answer three bonus questions.
  • World game: date as many maps as you like, by decade or by exact year.
  • Historic flags: name the state that flew a flag, with hot-and-cold hints in space and time.
  • Before or after: did one event come before another? Keep your streak alive.
  • Name the country: a territory is highlighted on an old map; what was it called?
  • Flag evolution: put a country’s flags in the order they were used.

How we keep it accurate

A map in Eradle is never simply labelled with a year. Each one lists the facts it shows (which countries exist, what they’re called, which flags they fly), and every fact carries a date and a source. The years a map can represent are worked out from those facts, and after every round the game shows exactly how to tell, with links to the sources. If something is wrong, the Report an error button on every answer reaches us directly.
